Una palabra por semana

Hello blog it’s sure nice to see you.

This week was a great bilingual week at our household, I was inspired to create a word of the week for us, thanks in part to something that my son did at breakfast.

On Monday morning we sat chatting as we normally do before school. He was eating waffles and I was tomando mi cafesito. He then looked up at me and said, “mama this is so delicioso!” I was in disbelief and  grinned at the cuteness that I had just witnessed.

You see my son is 4-years-old and doesn’t really want to speak Spanish , an obstacle for any family raising bilingual children.  So when he popped out that word and mixed it in for a perfect Spanglish sentence I giggled in delight. It was a huge milestone for our family.

I thought right then and there that we should infuse a word of the week or una palabra por semana and this is how we’ll start.

1. We’ll start slow, picking one word and as we get better at using the words in sentences we’ll add 2 and then 3.

2.  I’ll write the word on post it notes around the house so we see it (a great way to teach phonics as well.)

3. Then we’ll make sure and infuse it into our daily routine.

4. We’ll take turns picking the words.

Buena suerte!
